Quick Draw Youth Events

NEW for 2015! Two Quick Draw Youth Divisions

The 5th Annual Plein Air Camp Hill Arts Festival continues to encourage a new generation of plein air painters and photographers. This year we are holding separate judged plein air painting competitions for students in two Youth Quick Draw divisions based on school grades.

  • Young Adult Division for students in grades 9-12
  • Junior Division for students in grades 6-8

These competitions will be held on main festival day, Saturday, May 30th, in Willow Park at 24th and Market Streets, Camp Hill.

There is no registration fee for this event. Preregistration is preferred but not necessary and is available by completing the Youth Activities Registration Form and emailing to or mailing to:

Those wishing to participate may also register by contacting Plein Air organizers at 717-909-4332 no later than Wednesday, May 27th, 2015.

Those preregistered will receive free painting supplies including canvas and paints on festival day or may bring their own supplies (canvas, paper, acrylic, oil, pencil, charcoal, etc.). Those not preregistered are welcome to register free on festival day at the information tent in Willow Park but must bring their own supplies.


Each Division is open to all youth in the corresponding grades listed above. Before the event begins, participants may choose a location within the designated boundaries. The artists must start with nothing pre-painted, pre-drawn or pre-sculpted. At 10:00am, the artists begin to create en plein air and must finish their artwork by the end of the competition at 12 noon.

Youth Quick Draw Boundaries

Boundaries are between 21st Street and 25th Street and from White Hall Alley (which runs parallel to Market Street) north to Walnut Street and including all of Willow Park.

Exhibit and Drawing

All artists must arrive for the exhibit and judging by 12:30pm. Artists must supply their own easels (if desired) but do not have to frame their entries. Event staff will be available to answer artists' questions, direct artists to the exhibit space and help artists set up their easels. Each artwork must be for sale and have a title and price. A label (supplied) must be completed and attached to the easel.

Awards at 1:00pm

While all participants receive an award for participating, there will be cash awards for those who excel in each division:

$200 for 1st Place
$100 for 2nd Place
$50 for 3rd Place

Artwork will remain on display for sale until 2:00pm.
